On November 26, 2016, the city of Atlanta will join the nation in celebrating “Small Business Saturday.” As a small business, earlier this year Adrienne J Media (AJM) announced its inclusion in the City of Atlanta inaugural class of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI). It was with this in mind, that we attended the “Excellence in Small Business Awards Luncheon,” hosted by Invest Atlanta.
The first of its kind event for the organization, this awards luncheon showcased recipients selected for “Entrepreneur of the Year”, “Excellence in Innovation, and Excellence in Longevity.
Opening remarks by Dr. Eloisa Klementich, President and CEO for Invest Atlanta, set the tone for a wonderful event. She highlighted how Invest Atlanta has invested over $10 million in more than 150 businesses in Atlanta. Cassius F. Butts, keynote speaker and Regional Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration, appointed by President Obama, reflected on coming from a family of entrepreneurs. “Entrepreneurship is waking up every day wanting to make something different than yesterday,” he said. “No one finds success alone, nor should they seek success alone.”
Additional words of wisdom and cherished thoughts were shared by Lonnie Saboor, Director of Small Business Development for Invest Atlanta. “I have witnessed Atlanta’s small business community flourish in my 37-year career. You cannot win the game, if you’re not on the field,” he added.
Though the entrepreneurship journey may, at times, be difficult, it was encouraging to witness a room filled with others on the same journey.
Launched in 2010 by American Express, Small Business Saturday encourages people across the country to support small, local businesses. A year later in 2011, the U.S. Senate officially recognized the day. Last year, 95 million people went out to shop at a small business.
Come along with us as we embark on a road to an even brighter small business future.
